Q In this discussion, students will analyze the methods of Union General William Tecumseh Sherman. Sherman's techniques are still quite controversial today. Additionally, one can argue that his techniques served as foreshadowing of future conflicts, such as World War I and II, in which all sides deliberately targeted civilians in an effort to break their opponents' resolve. To begin, take a look at these photographs. For your initial post, describe your reaction to the photos and provide a brief argument regarding the necessity of Sherman's tactics. William Tecumseh Sherman’s tactics was known as the Sherman’s necktie. During the Civil War, he was known for the damage and destruction he brought to Atlanta, Georgia. This tactic was used to destroy the railroads by Sherman and therefore it was named after Sherman. Sherman marched to the sea which actually changed the tactics of warfare. These pictures look like a scene from the war of Atlanta as the date is given. All the pictures mainly show ruins and destructions which are left after the war.
